What Happened to Pramp? Where Its Free Peer Mock Interviews Went

Devana Team

If you went looking for a Pramp mock interview recently and ended up somewhere else, nothing is broken. Pramp still exists and is still free, but it no longer runs under its own name. Its peer mock interviews now happen on Aced Practice, run by the company formerly known as Exponent. Here is how that happened, how a peer mock works today, and what to use alongside it.

What happened to Pramp

Pramp was a free platform that paired two candidates to interview each other: you asked questions for half the session and answered them for the other half. For years it was the default advice for anyone who wanted to practise out loud without paying for a coach.

It was bought, moved and renamed in three steps. None of them shut it down, which is why the answer to "is Pramp still available" is yes, just not where you remember it.

The timeline

WhenWhat changedSource
November 2021Exponent acquires Pramp and commits to keeping it freeExponent announcement
July 2024All new Pramp sessions move onto Exponent's own practice platformpramp.com
August 2026Exponent rebrands as Aced; peer mocks become Aced PracticeAced announcement

When Exponent announced the deal it called Pramp first and foremost a free platform and committed to keeping it that way. As of October 2026, pramp.com still describes the practice as free, and old tryexponent.com links redirect to aced.io.

How a peer mock works now

The format is the one Pramp made popular. According to pramp.com:

  • โ†’ You swap roles. You and your peer interview each other for 30 to 45 minutes each, then both write feedback.
  • โ†’ You pick a topic. Data structures and algorithms, system design, behavioural, frontend, product management and data science are all offered.
  • โ†’ You are matched, not booked. Partners are chosen on availability, experience, education, topic and target companies.

Getting real value from a peer mock

A peer mock is only as good as the hour you put into it, and most people waste half of it. Four habits make the difference.

  • โœ“ Treat your interviewer half as practice too. Watching someone else go quiet for forty seconds teaches you more about how silence reads than any article, including ours on getting stuck.
  • โœ“ Narrate everything. Your peer can only give feedback on what they heard. A good idea you never said out loud does not exist.
  • โœ“ Ask for one specific note. "Was my approach clear before I started coding?" gets a useful answer. "How did I do?" gets "good job".
  • โœ“ Write your own debrief straight after. The method in how to read mock interview feedback works just as well on a peer session.

Where peer mocks fall short

Free human practice is valuable, and it has real limits worth planning around.

  • ! Your partner is a candidate, not an interviewer. They may not know what a strong answer sounds like, so their feedback can be generous or simply wrong.
  • ! Half the session is not your practice. A one-hour slot gives you at most half an hour in the hot seat.
  • ! It needs another person. Matching depends on someone else being free at the same time, which makes daily practice hard to sustain.
  • ! Depth varies by round. A peer can push you on a coding question far more easily than on a system design round, where the useful follow-ups come from experience.

Alternatives to Pramp

Most candidates end up combining two kinds of practice: something cheap and frequent to build the habit of talking while solving, and something expert and occasional to check the bar. Details below were checked on each provider's own site in October 2026. Transparency note: we build Devana.

๐Ÿ”‘ A simple weekly mix

Short spoken sessions on most days to build the habit, one peer mock a week for a real human reaction, and one expert session in the fortnight before your onsite. Frequency builds the skill; the expert session tells you whether it is enough.

Frequently asked questions

Is Pramp shut down?

No. The name and pramp.com still exist, but since July 2024 new sessions run on the owner's own platform, which is now called Aced Practice.

Is Pramp still free?

Peer mock interviews are described as free on pramp.com as of October 2026. Aced also sells paid plans for its courses and AI tools; check its site for current prices.

Who owns Pramp?

Exponent bought it in November 2021. Exponent renamed itself Aced in August 2026, so Pramp is now part of Aced.

What is the difference between Pramp and interviewing.io?

Pramp pairs you with another candidate for free. interviewing.io sells sessions with working engineers, starting at $179, and also offers a free AI interviewer.

What should I practise if I only have a week?

Talking while you solve. Most candidates who stall in a real interview could solve the problem alone; what fails is solving it out loud with someone watching. Any of the options above trains that, and the 30-day plan shows how to fit it around the rest of your preparation.
