Devana runs four kinds of AI mock interview: coding, system design, behavioral and resume-based. Each is a live voice conversation with an AI interviewer named Josh, scored out of 100 on a rubric built for that round, with a list of what raised and lowered your score. All four are on the Free plan: 3 interviews a month, up to 20 minutes each.
Choose a round
Coding mock interviews
Two problems by voice, in a built-in editor that runs Python, JavaScript, TypeScript, Java or C++. Scored 60% on how you communicated and 40% on your code.
System design mock interviews
Design a system out loud on a whiteboard the interviewer reads, while it asks why. Scored on 8 metrics: 40% communication, 60% the design.
Behavioral mock interviews
Questions with follow-ups that dig into what you personally did. Scored 40% on delivery and 60% on STAR content.
Resume-based mock interviews
A behavioral, coding or system design round built from your own resume, which is processed in memory and never stored.
The rounds at a glance
| Round | Longest session (Free / paid) | Scored on | Questions in the bank |
|---|---|---|---|
| Coding | 20 min / 60 min | Communication 60%, code 40% | 564 |
| System design | 20 min / 60 min | Communication 40%, design 60% | 357 |
| Behavioral | 20 min / 30 min | Delivery 40%, STAR content 60% | 302 |
| Resume-based | As the round you choose | As the round you choose | Written from your resume |
Paid means the Sprint Pass or Pro. A single question picked from the bank runs up to 30 minutes on a paid plan. The bank holds 1,704 questions in all, in sets for 46 companies.
Which round should you practise first?
- You go quiet when you code. Start with coding. Most of its score is how you explain yourself, so it trains exactly that.
- You are interviewing for a senior or backend role. Add system design early; it takes the longest to get comfortable with.
- You have never told your stories out loud. Do a behavioral round before you need one. Most people find their answers run long.
- You are early in a search. A resume-based round shows which lines on your resume you can defend.
- You have a specific company coming up. Use its company question set in any round. Company sets are on the Free plan.
What every round has in common
- A spoken conversation. You talk, and Josh listens, probes and follows up. You choose his style: friendly, realistic, strict or coaching.
- Your choice of difficulty. Easy, medium, hard or mixed.
- Any problem you like. Bring Your Own Problem runs a full interview on a problem you paste in.
- A scorecard. A score out of 100 split into communication and the technical side of the round, a label from Needs Work to Excellent, and what raised and lowered each score.
- Fair counting. A session only uses up an interview once you have actually attempted it.
If you are still choosing between tools, the best AI mock interview tools for software engineers compares nine of them, and Final Round AI alternatives explains how a practice tool differs from a live interview copilot.
Frequently asked questions
What types of mock interview does Devana offer?
Four: coding, system design, behavioral and resume-based. A resume-based interview runs as a behavioral, coding or system design round, with the questions built from your own resume. Every round is a voice conversation with the AI interviewer and ends with a score out of 100.
Can I choose how hard the interview is?
Yes. You pick easy, medium, hard or mixed before the round starts, along with the interviewer's style (friendly, realistic, strict or coaching) and, for coding, the language you will write in.
How many mock interviews can I do on Devana?
The Free plan gives you 3 a month of up to 20 minutes each. The Sprint Pass gives you 14 to use within 14 days for a one-time $19, and Pro gives you up to 40 a month. A session only counts once you have actually attempted it.
