Amazon Mock Interview Practice: Coding, System Design and Leadership Principles

Updated October 12, 2026 · By the Devana Team

An Amazon mock interview on Devana is a voice interview with an AI interviewer on one of 68 Amazon-style questions from Devana's bank: 28 coding, 13 system design, 16 technical deep dives and 11 behavioral. Your code runs, the interviewer asks follow-ups, and you get a score out of 100. Company question sets are on the Free plan. Devana is not affiliated with Amazon, and these are not leaked or confirmed Amazon questions.

What the Amazon software engineer interview looks like

Amazon publishes more than most. For SDE II roles, its interview prep page describes an online assessment (90 minutes for two coding questions, then 20 minutes of system design scenarios and an 8-minute work style survey), then a loop of four 55-minute interviews, with a decision within five business days. Amazon also says the process differs from role to role.

It asks for syntactically correct code, not pseudocode; it judges system design on practicality, accuracy, efficiency, reliability, optimization and scalability; and it says a significant portion of the conversation will focus on its 16 Leadership Principles, answered with the STAR method.

What Devana practices for Amazon

Devana's Amazon set has 68 questions, 31 of them rated hard. The topics that come up most are Scalability, Systems Design, Databases and Hash Map. They are Devana's own questions, written to reflect what Amazon and its candidates have said publicly about its interviews. Start any of these as a mock interview:

How to practice for Amazon

  • Prepare the Leadership Principles for every round. Amazon says the principles come up across the loop, and every Amazon behavioral question in the bank is built on one Leadership Principle, such as Customer Obsession, Ownership, or Invent and Simplify. Build eight to ten stories that each cover two or three principles, rather than one thin story per principle.
  • Write code that would compile. Devana runs your code, so a syntax error or a missed edge case shows up at once, which is the habit Amazon's no-pseudocode rule asks for.
  • Think in Amazon's business. Our coding questions arrive as retail and logistics problems, such as best sellers over a rolling window and sequencing a driver's delivery stops; the designs are a product detail page, checkout and inventory for a flash sale.
  • Say what a design costs. Frugality is a principle, so cost is a fair question in a design round. Cover reliability and where the design stops scaling, out loud.

How an Amazon mock interview runs on Devana

Pick a question from the Amazon set and you talk it through with Josh, Devana's AI interviewer, for up to 30 minutes on a paid plan or 20 on the Free plan. In a coding question your code runs in Python, JavaScript, TypeScript, Java or C++; a design question has a whiteboard the interviewer reads; a behavioral question gets follow-ups about what you personally did. Each session ends with a score out of 100 on that round's rubric and a list of what raised and lowered it. For a full-length round with two problems, start a standard mock interview from Practice instead: up to 60 minutes on a paid plan, though you cannot choose the company. The mock interviews by round page shows each round type.
